Shamsud-Din Ali, previously known as Clarence Fowler is married to Farida Ali, aka Rita Spicer. The family had a Christianity origin but later converted to Islam. The family had two kids Lakiha Spicer and her older brother Azeem Spicer. Lakiha converted to Christianity after marrying Mike Tyson. Shamsud-Din Ali was convicted of murder in the 1970s and eventually became the leader of the Philadelphia Masjid and a powerful Muslim cleric in West Philadelphia. He served time for murder in the early 1970s when he was known as Clarence Fowler. His conviction was overturned in part because the lone witness refused to participate in the appeal process after she was visited by a Black Mafia henchman.
Soon after Ali’s 1976 release, DEA informants revealed that the Black Mafia racket of extorting drug dealers was thriving, with tributes paid to Ali’s Mosque. Ali was convicted of charges involving several money-making extortion schemes and influence-peddling involving high-ranking city officials. Prosecutors argued that Ali used the Sister Clara Muhammad School, operated by Ali and his wife, Faridah, his mosque, and a business they controlled to make tens of thousands of dollars in illegal income.
Ali was convicted in September 2005 on various racketeering, conspiracy, and fraud charges and sentenced to federal prison. He was released in December 2013.
During a corruption case involving members of her family in 2004, Lakiha was sentenced to house imprisonment and 4 years probation. In 2008, she was sent to federal prison for six months for criminal fraud and conspiracy.
