Melanie A. Altuve is the daughter of Houston Astros’ second baseman José Altuve. Born in Houston, Texas, Melanie is the middle child of three sisters. In 2017, José Altuve was the American League MVP, a World Series champion, and a four-time All-Star. He’s also the Houston Astros’ all-time leader in hits. Not bad for a player who is only 5’6″.

Personal life of Melanie A. Altuve

Melanie was a tomboy who loved playing sports with her father and sisters. Melanie began playing softball when she was five years old and played on an all-star team when she was eight. When she was ten, Melanie decided she wanted to play baseball like her father and began playing on an all-boys team. Melanie continued to play baseball until she was fourteen when she decided to focus on softball.

Melanie A. Altuve as a High School Softball Player

Melanie was a three-time All-District selection in softball and was named to the All-Greater Houston Area team as a senior. She was also a member of the Houston Astros’ softball academy. After graduating from high school, Melanie attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she played softball for the Longhorns.

In her four years in Texas, Melanie was a four-time All-Big 12 selection and was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year twice. She was also a two-time NFCA All-American. Melanie helped lead the Longhorns to the Women’s College World Series three times and was named the WCWS’s Most Outstanding Player in 2009.

Melanie A. Altuve’s Career as a Professional Softball Player

After graduating from Texas, Melanie was drafted by the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch League. She played for the Bandits for two seasons, before being traded to the Akron Racers in 2012. Melanie played for the Racers for one season, before retiring from professional softball.

Altuve was born in Maracay, Venezuela in 1990. He began playing baseball at a young age and was signed by the Astros in 2007. He made his Major League debut in 2011 and quickly established himself as one of the best second basemen in the game.

In 2014, Altuve had a breakout year, batting .341 with 225 hits, 57 stolen bases, and 7 homers. He was named the American League batting champion and finished second in MVP voting. He followed that up with another excellent season in 2015, hitting .338 with 200 hits, 42 stolen bases, and 15 homers.

In the 2017 World Series, Altuve was once again excellent, batting .310 with 2 homers and 5 RBI. He was named the World Series MVP as the Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games.
